15 Minutes Law Literacy: Fisherman Community Adaptation on Climate Change
Climate change is a sure phenomenon felt by many including Indonesian. One of the examples is Indonesia’s fisherman who lives in Maluku Province. Shifts in climate behavior, nutrition current, as well as the fish behavior.
Currently, the fish on the coast are no longer on the area, they have moved to deeper seas. Apart from that, weather conditions, winds and sea surface temperatures have also changed.
Their knowledge acquired from ancestor is now irrelevant with the current situation. Hence, fisherman is in need to update their knowledge on reading the nature’s signs.
It seems the Government of Indonesia is already aware of such problems, seeing the many programs set up to help. However, administrative side of the program is seen as a challenge by the fisherman. For them it is too burdensome, and complicated.
Thus, aside from the program, the fisherman community also needs continues assistance to access such programs, as they are unfamiliar with administrative requirements. Moreover, another challenge is the need and habit of being a group, since much of programs are for groups
