M.S. Syahrir graduated from Faculty of Law of Indonesia University and continued his studies at the Newport University, and obtained his MBA. He is a member of The Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI), certified as an accredited mediator by the National Mediation Center (Pusat Mediasi Nasional / PMN), also a member of the Indonesian Oil & Gas and Energy Lawyers Association (Ikatan Sarjana Hukum Minyak, Gas, dan Energi Indonesia/ISHMEI).

M.S. Syahrir as a legal practitioner has been involved in various legal affairs since 1984, including more than 35 years of working experience in a Multinational Oil and Gas Company. He is also recognized as a practitioner in Insurance Specialist since 1986. His practices also include general contract drafting and Supply Chain Management. He has attended various trainings and seminars both locally and abroad on corporate law, oil and gas law, oil and gas support contracts, construction contracts, insurance law, risk management, negotiation, arbitration, and mediation.

He is regularly invited to become a speaker in seminars and training related to insurance and risk management, especially in the Oil and Gas sector, and alternative dispute resolution, especially negotiation and mediation, both in Indonesia and abroad. He also serves as the Advisors at AZP Legal Consultant, and Mediator at the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institution for Financial Services Sector (LAPS SJK).
